Beyond the Sea
On the 26th of December 2004, at 8.30 AM, a tsunami hardly stroke these beaches causing 9,000 deaths and leaving more than 140,000 people without a home.
All the people I met on those shores had lost someone. Everybody, soon after we had been introduced, autonomously began to recount his or her experience. “Beyond the sea” tells the life of the people who live on these shores, the sons of the tsunami. People who have rebuilt their life, their job, their routine and consider the sea as a resource but, at the same time, look at it with the same respect, love and fear that one has before gods. The suggestions I have started from are the sea on the background and the words of the people I met to the fore. This work intends to be the story of a journey made of persons, rebirth, children’s games: the story of a faraway sea that I felt close to me and, at the same time, has scared me. |
